1. What are aims of Kazakhstan
National Electronic Library project?
Aim:
To
create information system for catalogue of electronic state library collection
and United electronic storage for book copies with depository and user’s
collection. To
provide with access to electronic documents in different modes by Internet
channels for all the groups of users
The following is elaborated in the course of implementing project:
technological platform of electronic storage (basic and reserve
electronic storages)
portal as points of access to e-catalogue, e-storage, and library
e-services (www.kazneb.kz).

2.Can any user use the electronic catalogue or only that user who is
registered as a reader in real library? If yes, are all the given functions
available?
KazNEB information resources
are opened for users on several levels:
For all the
groups of users:
Search of information in electronic catalogues
“E-copies of books”, “NABRK catalogues”;
For authorized
users of the portal:
Search of information in electronic catalogues
“E-copies of books”, “NABRK catalogues”;
Browsing of
electronic copies in reading mode from catalogue “E-copies of books”;
Forming of
bookmarks and downloading of full book version in the way defined by effective
legislation of RK on copyright;
Forming of
“Private cabinet” with possibility to form a file “Selected”;
Electronic
order of book fragment on user’s electronic mail;
Opportunity to ask
librarian - virtual reference service;
Search by
topic rubricator on basis of UDC (Universal Decimal Classification)
For registered
readers and libraries-participants of the project, all mentioned above as well
as:
Affording
(producing and delivering by E-mail) fragments of electronic copies of
documents selected in NABRK catalogues;
Preliminary
book order to library’s reading rooms on definite day and time;
“Private
cabinet” with files “Selected”, “My electronic orders”, “My orders to
reading room”
3. How to Get Permanent Library Card Number?
In case you want to get a permanent library card in NABRK, send your
request to T.Chaykovskaya@nabrk.kz: indicating
your name,
surname, date of birth, place of birth, education, university or college,
employment, home address, e-mail (e-photo 3x4 also desired).
Then you will get library card number, it will give you more opportunities and services on the portal after
activation, such as an opportunity to make an order for a digital copy of book fragment from
“NABRK catalogues”. All details will be sent on your e-mail. Confidentiality of
data presented is guaranteed. In the sequel, record procedure will be also
automated.
4.“Paginal browsing” allows
acquainting with needed publication on the screen. Can user copy a book on
his/her computer?
User can copy a book, if there
are no restrictions on copyright. In KazNEB, a list of such books includes rare
books with expiration of copyright time, official documents and folklore works;
fragments of books whose authors have concluded agreement.
5. What to do
for copying the whole book? Is it possible to order digitization of the whole
book? How much does it cost?
If the book is
without restrictions
on copyright, we will send you the whole text. If the book is under effective
legislation on copyright, then we will send only the needed chapters. Within
experimental operation, all KazNEB services are free of charge.
6.How is service “Private cabinet” realized? What is
its comfort level?
This widespread service on portals permits personify users’ preferences.
Each user has files “My electronic orders”, “Selected”, and “My orders to
reading room ” in “Private cabinet”. If our user is a permanent visitor,
he/she can form a collection of selected books to his/her taste in “Private
cabinet” in order not to search again during next visit and to open the book
immediately on the necessary page. For doing this, press the button “Selected”
opposite the book. Also, user can regulate the orders both to reading room and
orders in electronic way.
